The Fox’s Compliments
Once upon a time, there was a hungry fox who would settle for even a piece of cheese. As he walked along, he heard a sound. He looked above and saw a crow standing on a branch, holding a chunk of meat in her mouth.
The fox started drooling, but how on earth could he get the chunky meat? He scratched his head and came up with a smart idea.
The fox pretended to be respectful and greeted her, “How do you do, Miss Crow?”
The crow only glanced at the fox and nodded.
The fox continued, “If only you could sing better than the rest, you would be the queen of the birds•”
The crow thought, “Of course I can sing well. Let me show him my talents.” The crow opened her mouth... and the meat dropped even before she started to sing!
The fox picked up the chunky meat and laughed at the crow, “My dear crow, you may be able to sing well, but you really need to brush up on your brains!”
Be careful when people shower you with compliments - they may have ulterior motives.
