Catch of the Day 钓鱼 Cindy threw her line into the lake. She wanted to catch the biggest fish of the day. It was a fishing competition. She and her father were there. The prize for the biggest fish was a very large trophy. "Got one!" someone shouted. It was Ryan. "It's a big one!" Ryan's father said. Cindy's father put his hand on her shoulder. "Be patient." "But what if I don't catch anything? I really want that trophy. Yesterday, I made room for it on my bookshelf." Her father nodded. "Trophies are nice, but you love fishing. Don't let winning a trophy ruin your fun." Cindy smiled. Her father always knew what to say to cheer her up. "I'm stuck on something," Cindy said. "Give it a gentle tug. It might be a fish," her father said. Cindy tugged and the line tugged back. "It's a fish! It was really strong. It must be a very big fish. " "It's a turtle!" her father said. Everyone came to see Cindy's catch. The turtle was enormous. “It must be forty pounds!” Ryan said. Cindy worked hard to pull in the turtle. But her father set it free. The turtle turned and swam away. “Oh no!” Cindy cried. Mr Lee, the contest judge, walked over. “That turtle's been in this lake for years. People come fishing just hoping to see him.” “Really?” Cindy asked. Mr Lee nodded. “And I think I know who is going to win the trophy.” Cindy's eyes lit up. “Dad, I'm glad we set the turtle free. I look forward to see him on my next fishing trip,” said Cindy happily. 辛迪把鱼线抛进湖里。她想钓一条最大的鱼。 这是辛迪和爸爸一起参加的一个钓鱼比赛。谁钓到的鱼最大，谁就能获得那个超大的奖杯。 “钓到一条！”有人大喊。 是瑞安。 “还是条大鱼！”瑞安爸爸说。 辛迪爸爸把手放在她肩膀上，说：“耐心一点。” “但是万一我什么也没钓到呢？我真的很想要那个奖杯。昨天我还在书架上为它收拾了一块地方呢。” 爸爸点了点头，说：“奖杯确实不错，但是你爱的是钓鱼，别为了赢一个奖杯毁掉你的乐趣。” 辛迪笑了。爸爸总是知道说什么能让她高兴起来。 “有东西咬钩了。”辛迪说。 “轻轻拉一拉，可能是条鱼。”爸爸说。 辛迪拉了一下鱼线，那头也把她往回拉了一下。 “是一条鱼！它劲儿真大，一定是条非常大的鱼。” “是一只海龟！”爸爸说。 大家都过来看辛迪的捕获。真是只巨大的海龟。 “一定有四十磅！”瑞安说。 辛迪费了好大的劲儿才把海龟拉上来，但是爸爸却把它放回了水里。海龟转身游走了。 “哦，不！”辛迪喊道。 比赛的裁判李先生走过来说：“那只海龟在这湖里很多年了，人们来这儿钓鱼，就是希望能看到它。” “真的吗？”辛迪问。 李先生点了点头，说：“而且我觉得我已经知道今天谁会赢得奖杯了。” 辛迪的眼睛喜悦地一亮。 “爸爸，很高兴我们把海龟放走了。我期待下次来这里钓鱼时还能见到它。”辛迪高兴地说。 |
