一个人在肯尼亚度假。穿过荒野的时候，他碰到了一头大象，抬着一条腿。它看起来焦躁不安，于是这个人就小心翼翼地靠过去。他单膝跪下，检查大象的脚。 有一根很大的刺深深地插进了大象脚底。这个人尽可能小心地拔除了这根刺，大象小心翼翼地把脚放下来。 然后它转过脸来，严肃地看着这个人。 足有十分钟，这个人站在那里一动不动——他想自己一定会被踩死。最后大象大吼一声,转身走了。 几年来这个人一直记得这头大象和那天发生的事情。 一天这个人和他的儿子逛动物园。当他们走近大象区的时候，一头大象转过身来走到他们站着的栏杆前面。 大象盯着这个人看，令他不禁想到这会不会是几年前碰到的那头大象。过了一会儿大象大吼一声，然后继续看着他。这个人鼓起勇气，翻过栏杆，进了围栏里面。他直接走到那头大象跟前，好奇地看着它。 突然大象又大吼一声，用鼻子缠住了这个人的一条腿，使劲地把他在栏杆上摔来摔去，把他摔死了。 也许这不是同一头大象。 The Elephant A man was on holiday in Kenya. While he was walking through the bush, he came across an elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed so the man approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot. There was a large thorn deeply embedded in the bottom of the foot. As carefully and as gently as he could he removed the thorn and the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man and with a rather stern look on its face, stared at him. For a good ten minutes the man stood frozen — thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away. For years after, the man remembered the elephant and the events of that day. One day the man was walking through the zoo with his son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to where they are standing at the rail. It stared at him and the man couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. After a while it trumpeted loudly； then it continued to stare at him. The man summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. Suddenly the elephant trumpeted again，wrapped its trunk around one of the man’s legs and swung him wildly back and forth along the railing, killing him. |
