撒切尔夫人给9岁儿童的一封回信（中英对照）

"Last night when we were saying prayers, my Daddy said everyone has done wrong things except Jesus. I said I don't think you have done bad things because you are the prime minister. Am I right or is my Daddy?" （昨天晚上祈祷时，我爹地说除了耶稣以外每个人都会做错事情。我说我觉得您没有做过坏事，因为您是首相。是我说的对还是我爹地说的对呢？）

没有想到没收到这封信的撒切尔夫人也认了真，提笔给小男孩David回了这样一封信——在信中，撒切尔夫人这样写道：

However good we try to be, we can never be as kind, gentle and wise as Jesus.（不管我们如何努力，我们永远不会向耶稣那样善良、温柔和聪明。）

There will be times when we say or do something we wish we hadn’t done and we shall be sorry and try not to do it again!（很多时候我们对我们做过的事或者说过的话感到后悔，我们会感到抱歉，下决心以后再也不这样了！）
 

We do our best, but our best is not as good as his daily life. If you and I were to paint a picture it wouldn’t be as good as the picture of great artists. No our lives can’t be as good as the life of Jesus.（我们做最大的努力，但做多大的努力也比不上耶稣。如果你我一起画一幅画的话，一定比不上大艺术家的作品。所以，我们的生命不能和耶稣相比。）
 

As Prime Minister, I try very hard to do things right and because Jesus gave us a perfect example I try even harder. But your father is right in saying that we can never be as perfect as He was.（作为首相，我努力把事情做好，因为耶稣给了我们树立了光辉榜样，我会更加努力。但是你的爸爸说的对，我们永远不可能像耶稣他那样完美无缺。） 

撒切尔夫人写这封信已经过去了三十多年了，当年的小男孩现在怎么样了呢？他现在与妻子生活在澳大利亚，他们的一双儿女Emma和Jack也到了能和父母争论的年龄了，可是撒切尔夫人却已经走了。
