从前在丛林里有一个很深的池塘。雨季时节，池塘里积满了水，荷花探出水面，景色非常美丽。青蛙和螃蟹也快乐地生活在池塘里。 雨季过后，池塘里的水逐渐干涸了，只剩下一点儿水。青蛙和螃蟹感到继续待在那里很不安全，因为其他的动物很容易发现它们。 螃蟹建议说：“我们在池塘里挖个洞吧。” 青蛙听了说：“何必费劲挖洞，我们到草堆或树洞里住,不就行了吗?” 由于意见不一致，螃蟹说:“既然你不愿挖洞而要到草堆或树洞里去住，由你去吧！我还是决定要住在自己挖的洞里。不过，我把洞挖好后，你要保证不住到我的洞里来。” 青娃说：“笑话！我难道要依靠你不成？我发誓不再寻求你的庇佑!” 螃蟹便开始挖掘泥洞,青蛙则悠闲地住在草丛中。 可是不久草也枯萎了,青蛙只好转到树洞里去住。但是，它的天敌大蛇已经捷足先登住进树洞里了,正等着抓它呢！ 青蛙找不到一个安身的地方，就回来请求螃蟹收容它。 螃蟹见它背信弃义，立刻要赶走它。可是青蛙赖着不肯出去,螃蟹为了惩罚它，便用钳夹它，青蛙痛得大叫。声音传到树洞里，蛇便循着声音找到青蛙的行踪，并把它吃了。 The Frog and the Crab Once there was a pond deep in the jungle. During the rainy season, the pond was filled with water. The scenery was beautiful with the lotus sticking out from the water. A frog and a crab were living happily in the pond. After the rainy season，the pond dried up until only a small puddle was left. The frog and the crab felt insecure to stay there any longer because any predator could easily find them. The crab suggested/‘Let’s dig a hole in the pond. ’’ The frog said，“Why waste our energy to dig a hole? We can live in the bush or the hole of a tree.” Because they did not share the same opinion，the crab said，“ Since you do not like to dig a hole and prefer to stay in the bush or the hole of a tree，I’ll leave you. I have decided to dig a hole and stay. However, after I have dug the hole, promise me that you will not disturb me there. ’’ The frog said, “What a joke! What makes you think that I will need you at all? I swear that I shall never come to you for shelter! The crab started digging a hole while the frog was leisurely resting in a bush. Not long after, the grass wilted and the frog moved to a hollow tree trunk. However，the big snake，his greatest enemy，had occupied the place and was waiting to catch him. The frog could not find a better shelter so he went to beg the crab for shelter. The crab chased the frog away but he refused to leave. The crab then used his claws to grip him till he cried out in pain. The snake heard his cries and he finally caught the frog. |
