一个中小城市的法官正在审理一件酒后驾车的案子。被告有过酒后驾车的记录，而且以喜欢酒后驾车而闻名。他要求由陪审团裁决。当时已经是将近下午4点了,再组织陪审团要花很长时间，因此法官宣布，休庭，到大厅里看看能不能找到什么人来行使陪审团的职责。他看到大厅里有12个律师，就让他们来做陪审团。 律师们觉得这倒是很新奇的事，就跟着法官进了法庭。10分钟以后审理就结束了，很明显被告方有罪。陪审团进了陪审室，法官做好了回家的准备，大家都在等着。 在等了将近3个小时之后，法官再也沉不住气，让法警去陪审室看一下到底是什么事耽误了裁断。法警回来后，法官问他们做出裁决了吗？ 法警摇了摇头说：“裁决？他们还在做陪审团团长的提名演讲呢！” Lawyers’ Jury A judge in a semi-small city was hearing a drunk- driving case and the defendant, who had both a record and a reputation for driving under the influence, demanded a jury trial. It was nearly 4 p.m. and getting a jury would take time, so the judge called a recess and went out in the hall looking to impanel anyone available for jury duty. He found a dozen lawyers in the main lobby and told them that they were a jury. The lawyers thought this would be a novel experience and so followed the judge back to the courtroom. The trial was over in about 10 minutes and it was very clear that the defendant was guilty. The jury went into the jury-room, the judge started getting ready to go home, and everyone waited. After nearly three hours, the judge was totally out of patience and sent the bailiff into the jury-room to see what was holding up the verdict. When the bailiff returned, the judge said, “Well, have they got a verdict yet?” The bailiff shook his head and said, “Verdict? They’re still doing nominating spee-ches for the foreman’s position! ’’ |
