The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush Once there was a young boy called little Gupher. He was not very good at riding, running, shooting or wrestling. But he could make toy warriors. One day a Shaman told him to keep making toy warriors, and a year later he had to go to a hill for suggestion from a grandfather and an Indian maiden. So one year later the old grandfather told him how to paint pictures. The Indian maiden told him to paint on a pure white buckskin, and he could only paint on it with a color as pure. He practiced lots of painting of warriors, huts, and the dream-visions. But he could not find the pure color for the white buckskin. One day in his sleep, he heard a voice that said, “Go to the hill and you will find the colors you are looking for. ” That next evening, he went up to the hill and found there were paintbrushes with the colors of the sky. Then he used them to paint the buckskin blue, and then the buckskin became sky. He left the paintbrushes on the hill. The next day, the hill and valley was full of beautiful flowers. They named the flowers Indian Paintbrushes. That’s why they got the Indian paintbrush. |
