从前，有个国王碰到了一个很有智慧的牧羊人。国王很喜欢他，就让他做了自己的大臣。大臣表现出色，深受欢迎。有些人对此不满，就向国王进了谗言。他们妒火中烧，对大臣心生恶意，极尽想象之能事。后来情况更糟了，因为他们弄请楚了这个牧羊人的官邸里不但有个紧锁的房间，而且还不允许他人入内。他们对国王说：“每天要单独在那个房间里待上一个小时，肯定是在对您搞什么阴谋活动!" 他们的话激起了国王的好奇心，于是他要求去那个房间。那位大臣不情愿地开了门，领着国王进了房间。里面除了一条旧腰带和一根棍子之外，别的什么也没有。 “这是什么意思？”国王问道。 “噢，国王，”他回答说，"我留着这些东西是为了不忘记过去。我以前在野外放羊，活得很开心，生活也很简单。因此，我每天都来这里，想想我的过去。我清楚,干完这里的差使后，我就可以恢复过去的生活o” 国王意识到自己错了，就向这位智者道了歉。 The Shepherd Once a king came across a very wise shepherd. He liked him so much that he made him his minister. The minister did very well and became quite popular. Some people did not like this and they kept saying things against him to the king. They poisoned their minds against him out of their jealousy, and imagined all sorts of things. Things became worse when they realized that the shepherd had a locked room in his mansion，and that no one was allowed to go inside that room but he. They told the king this： “He spends an hour in that room alone every day. Surely he must be engaged in some secret activity against you!” The curiosity of the king was aroused and he demanded to be shown that room. The minister unwillingly opened the room and took the king inside. There was nothing in the room except an old dhoti and a stick. "What is the meaning of this?" asked the king. "Oh king,” said the man. "I keep these things to remind me of the past. I was a very happy shepherd and enjoyed being out in the open with my sheep. I lived a simple life. So I come here every day and think of my past. I know I can go back to these things when my duties here are over.” The king realized his mistake and apologized to the wise man. |
